EDP Renewables has awarded its Green Education scholarship grants to promote education for children and young people from low-income families, an initiative that falls under the EDP Foundation’s corporate social responsibility policy in its effort to promote the education of future generations.
A total of 113 grants have been awarded with a value of €75,500. The company applies a stringent selection process to choose the beneficiaries from the high number of applications received from all the Spanish Autonomous Regions where EDP Renewables operates.
This year, 66 grants totalling €44,000 were awarded to schoolchildren in the municipality of Cañete la Real (Malaga) in Andalusia, whereas the remaining 47 grants totalling €31,500 were awarded to recipients in the municipalities of Santa Comba, Dumbría and Vimianzo in Galicia.
João Paulo Costeira, EDP Renewables Europe CEO said, “awarding these grants is the best way to reflect the company’s commitment to future generations to provide them with the best training possible to prepare them for the challenges that lie ahead of them”.
“At EDP Renewables, we believe education is a cornerstone of society, which is why we intend to continue supporting this fundamental aspect through these scholarship grants, a programme which is now in its sixth year”, added Costeira.
