Madrid, 14 December 2020: EDP Renewables (Euronext: EDPR) — a global leader in the renewable energy field and the world's third-largest wind energy producer — today announces a donation of close to €150,000 to several food banks in countries within the company’s footprint.

One of the consequences of the pandemic and the ensuing economic crisis is the increasing number of vulnerable families. EDPR could not ignore this situation and has decided to contribute to the cause by donating the equivalent of two times its budget for end-of-year dinners and employee gifts. To this end, the company is donating close to €150,000 to food banks.

This donation is the result of efforts made by employees across the entire organisation and will be distributed directly to food banks in the local markets where EDPR operates. In Europe, the European Food Banks Federation (FEBA) has been nominated to distribute the aid through local food banks in Spain, Portugal, Greece, Italy, France, Poland and Romania.

In the Americas, the donation will help those in need in Brazil and Colombia, and in Mexico where the Red Cross will manage the contribution. The donation will be administered in Canada through two agencies, the Stormont and Dundas Community Foodshare (SDCF) and the Oyen Food Bank, and in the US by Feeding America.

This donation adds to the €850,000 EDPR has already contributed to the fight against Covid-19 as well as 400 computers donated to underprivileged students. In total, the company’s contribution to social aid this year already exceeds €1 million to be used to mitigate the pandemic's impact on those most in need.

Rui Teixeira, interim CEO of EDP Renewables, commented: «The pandemic has underlined the central role of companies in protecting and contributing to the overall improvement of society. In the case of EDPR, this concern is not new. The social contribution to local communities where we are present is part of our DNA and the most underprivileged are a priority at this time.»
