EDP Renewables inaugurates the Terra Fria wind farm in Montalegre,

Madrid, 21 January 2011: EDP Renewables, the world’s third-largest wind power producer, through Eneop 2 (in which it is the principal shareholder with a 40% stake), has today inaugurated the Terra Fria wind farm in Montalegre, Portugal, with an installed capacity of 96 MW. The opening ceremony was attended by the Portuguese Prime Minister, José Sócrates. As of September 2010, EDP Renewables had a total of 135 wind farms across the Iberian Peninsula (39 in Portugal and 96 in Spain) with a combined installed capacity of 2,630 MW, as well as a stake in 21 wind farms through Eneop 2. The Terra Fria wind farm, located just outside the city of Chaves in Northern Portugal, will provide an estimated output of 250 GWh per year, enough energy to supply a population of 140,000. Construction of the farm, which currently comprises 48 Enercon E82 wind turbines, began in April 2009. Ana Maria Fernandes, CEO of EDP Renewables, said: “The Terra Fria wind farm in Montalegre further strengthens our commitment to wind power in the Iberian peninsula and particularly in Northern Portugal. Through projects like this one, we are gradually helping to reduce dependency on imported energy”.
