EDPR, the world leader in renewable energies and third-largest wind power producer, has always sought to implement innovative solutions to involve residents in the development and operation of its wind and solar farms.
With support from the municipality of Marchéville, the group has partnered with local energy supplier Synelva to reduce the electricity bill so that neighbouring residents benefit directly from the presence of the wind farm. In practical terms, this means an annual reduction of €100 for the first 500 residents who apply.
EDPR wants people to embrace its farms, and besides regular visits and participatory fund-raising campaigns, hopes to develop this new initiative in favour of residents. If the pilot project in Marchéville proves successful, this initiative could be extended to other areas under similar conditions.

Key figures for the Marchéville wind farm

Located on the plains of the Beauce region in central France, the Marchéville wind farm comprises six 2.2 MW wind turbines, for a total installed capacity of 13.2 MW. It was commissioned in the 2nd quarter of 2020 and will supply renewable electricity for domestic use (excluding heating) to approximately 50,000 people. This is almost twice the requirement for a population the size of the Entre Beauce et Perche community of municipalities, where the wind farm is located. Furthermore, over 30 years of operation, the farm will curb CO2 emissions by nearly 242,000 tonnes.
